CLASSROOM ORGANIZATION

In the Pingree Center’s main building, we serve 50 preschool children who are placed into classrooms of approximately 10-12 children.  The children are separated into groups with a mix of age, cognitition and language abilities. Currently we serve 70 children from kindergarten to elementary and secondary grades.  The student to staff ratio ranges from a 2:1 to 5:1 ratio, based on the needs of the child. Some of the programs and activities are typical of a pre-school and elementary curriculum. Activities may include free-choice, play activities, games and gym time to instructional sessions, which range from attending and following-directions to calendar and pre-kindergarten activities. Teaching also occurs naturally throughout other activities such as social skills, which include dramatic play, social games that incorporate turn taking and sharing, and outdoor play. Additionally self-help and care routines such as snack, lunch, tooth brushing, toileting, and eating skills are a regular and integral part of daily activities.

The Jordan district locations servers a total of 12 children in the classroom who require a range of structured activities and approaches.  These specific activities and programs are consistent with the main site Pingree Center program.  Programming and curriculum development, although individualized to each child, remains a consistent and universal aspect of both of Pingree Center's settings.
