Elementary/Secondary Referrals

The elementary program at the Pingree Center is funded through two endowment funds: the Bourne-Spafford Foundation and the Valley Foundation. Parents may place their child’s name on the mailing list to receive applications for service.  All families are mailed an application in November.  This application includes a cover sheet, a request for IEP’s if the child is not currently in service in the Pingree Center, as well as financial information. Applications must be returned in November with supporting materials if the family wishes to be considered for financial aid. A selection committee meets in December to select the children who will be attending the program the following school year. As the elementary program is privately funded, all children have a tuition assessed for services. Full cost of service at this time is approximately $28,500.00.

However, all children are considered for scholarships.  Acceptance letters are mailed at the end of December or beginning of January. Tuition begins to be collected in March. This ensures that those accepting placements are committed to the program. Curriculum for the elementary program follows the general curriculum. However, there are several components in the elementary/secondary curriculum that differ from preschool. Academic rotations in math, reading and language are incorporated for those children who required academic groups. All children participate in groups focusing on the Utah State s Core Curriculum. The curriculum has focus on areas such as: physical education, literature, science, social studies, art and health. Some individualized programs might focus on the academic skills in a functional manner such as using calculators for math in a grocery setting, color identification for sorting laundry, matching fractions to measuring cups for independent cooking, etc. As in the preschool programs, goals are written in collaboration with families.
